Ethnic segregation and fascism of TPLF the woyanes

by Nathnael Abate
Ethnic segregation idea was first sowed in the land of Ethiopia by fascist Italians. The country dividing and hate mongering ideology was defeated with the fascist Italians. Later on in 1991 this Ideology was re-introduced by TPLF the bandits of forest. The re-introduced language based segregation was been used by the regime past 23 years. The neo-fascist woyane successfully divided the country by language, culture and history. More over the hate mongering history lessons propaganda advanced to academic areas which teach completely false, clueless and evidence less lessons to the generation. This has created ethnic based racism aggression among the students, people and ethnics of Ethiopia.
The well-known dictator regime of Ethiopia is the post-messenger and follower of fascist Italians. There are many similarities between the Tigrian liberation front and the invaders of 1936- 1941. The fascist dictator of Italy, during its occupation of Ethiopia, it partitioned the country in to six governorates. The governorates were as follow
Governoratecapital
AmharaGondar
Tigre and EritreaAsmara
Oromo-SidamaJimma
Bale and HarariHarar
ShoaAddis Ababa
Somalia-OgdenMogadishu

The Neo-fascist TPLF, Partitioned Ethiopia in to nine language based regions and two chartered cities. The regions are mainly based on the language and partially geographical regionalization. Language based includes Amhara,Ethiopia: EPRDF and Militarizing the Region Tigray , Oromia ,Somalia, Benshangoul goumuz and Afar regions. The remaining regions seem to be divided according to their geographical location. Gambella region has more than one language. Anuak, Nuer OPO denka and Mezhengir are the languages of the region. In south Ethiopia there are many ethnicity and languages. So the regionalizers gave them the name SNNP and compressed them in to one region. The regions further divided in to zones, woredas (districts) and kebeles.
To identify the individual’s ethnicity, individuals are registered according to their region, language and ethnicity. Their identity card or any legal documents required to fulfill these standards. This documentation provides strong base for discrimination of individuals during employment and public benefits. For instance an individual from Amhara or Afar region cannot work in public offices in Oromia region or cannot be elected as a public officer. The employment opportunity, owning land and property rights of the individuals are limited to their regions. This method of discriminating citizens based on their ethnicity comes from non-Ethiopian origin.  The technique of limiting the right of individuals to their regions and ethnicity was first devised by the Apartheid leaders of South Africa
During the apartheid segregation of races in South Africa, the ruling white party segregated and tried to eliminate blacks’ from areas where whites live and the parliament. Blacks were deprived South African citizenship and limited to their Ethnic based regions called Bantustans. Blacks were forced to live In the Bantustans and forcibly removed from their homes and property. South Africa’s black population was subjected to a massive program of forced relocation. This brings us to the implementation of Apartheid Bantustans in Ethiopia. The recent eviction of Amharic speaking Ethiopians from south Ethiopia and Benshoungoul gomouz is strategic Bantustan system applied on Amhara’s by TPLF. Ever since, the Ethiopian Bantustan system created, citizens deprived their right to employment, residence, access to common benefits and the associated things. In turn this resulted in a massive flow of young men power out of the country. The ethnic politics, hatred between ethnics, tribalism and chaos between ethnics are the results of Woyane Bantustan system.
During the fascist Italian invasion Ethiopia was regionalized in to six governorates and in reign of TPLF the country is regionalized in to nine regions based on their ethnicity and languages. The chaos mongering regionalization of the country has created hatred between people, made a gap to misunderstand past political history of the country, reduced common sense, common value and caused underestimating unity in diversity.
The TPLFs government main scheme to elongate its life span is destroying the national sense of Ethiopians and the feeling of being Ethiopian from the people. For this purpose ethnic politics based on language has become the target instrument. The national feeling of young generation has decreasing over half percent in compare to the past generation. Now days in the most part of the country the idea of being Ethiopian and Ethiopia considered as a Neftegna system followers, especially in Oromia, Somalia and Afar regions. Followers of ethicized politics often get their history education from the worst writers of history and ethnocentric politicians. They have a mission of making battle grounds between the ethnics of the country. I know the fact that there has always been ethnic marginalization, injustice and inequality in Ethiopia. But what happened in the past should not be used as an excuse to cause division and hatred now.
The ruling regime intentionally reduced national feeling from the generation. The generation taught to not value their country but their ethnicity. The increased hatred stress among different ethnics has doubled many times in recent years that were never known before in the history of Ethiopia. The year 2012, conflict between Gharri and Borena ethnics in south Ethiopia caused over 20,000 people to flee. Several pastoral tribes in south Ethiopia get in to conflict every year. Tribal zone conflict of the Suri and Dizi and others were the fruits of the woyanes language based ethnic policy.
The separation of people is not only in a social and cultural area but also it is further penetrated in to spiritual environments too. Since recent years depending on the church language many different churches were built. Often it’s observed that members of churches with the same religion but different church language quarrel and fight with each other because of their language differences.
So far I have been comparing the ruling regime of Ethiopia with fascist Italians and racist apartheid government of South Africa. It’s obvious that woyane Government copied and implemented the policy of Apartheid and fascists. For these governments their policy was right and honored. The same is true for woyanes, their ethnic centered policy is holy and sanctified for them. The current segregation policy of woyane is daily fueled up to the people through media stating the segregation is for freedom, equality and justice which the people deprived in the former political systems. The repeated false propaganda of woyane brainwashed the people. The woyanes context of freedom, is sustaining its power and eradicating any opponent and Equality is dividing the country in to tribes and creating hatred among these ethnicities.
To continue divide and rule strategy, TPLF every year celebrates “ye bihereseboch qen”. Millions of dollars spent on the occasion and the main goal of the celebration is not to promote the unity in diversity or increase our bond but it’s aimed to pleasure the junta leaders. It’s illogical for woyane to celebrate the nations and nationalities day and make segregation among the people. Also it makes no sense since tens of thousands of our people killed and left on the land of Arab’s but back home the TPLF having party for diversities. Which comes first, saving lives of the abandoned citizens or having fake diversity party?
The confused government of Ethiopia with self-contradicting policy kept on ethnic apartheid leading system. Consequently, I cannot see unified peaceful country as long as TPLF exists. If the situation is left to continue in this manner, there is no doubt that soon or later civil war would occur or Ethiopians would be abandoned and become stateless people. To combat the woyane from act of country destruction, all Ethiopians should become patriots like their forefather who defeated fascists and turned them in to ashes.  As the South African blacks struggle was not a question of political power, our struggle is not an interest of political supremacy but it is a fight for survival of our country, keeping it or losing it forever. Our forefathers did not fight fascist for the sake of political power but it was a question of existence, sovereignty, keeping our land or losing it forever. That was the spirit which gave power to our forefathers and black South Africans to defeat their enemies. Our invincible Ethiopiansim power should come out of us. Our arms should be heavy up on woyane. There should be no more suppression, killing and segregation. We should stand together to build our country’s unity in diversity.

Tamrat talks politics again; should we trust him?

by Hindessa Abdul
Former Ethiopian leaders are breaking their silence.
Tamrat Layne
Former Ethiopian leaders are breaking their silence. Colonel Mengistu Hailemariam, who for the last 22 years has been living in exile in Zimbabwe, spoke about his encounters with the late South African President Nelson Mandela.
From that interview we learned: Mengistu handed a $100,000 check to the anti-apartheid icon shortly after his release from prison; the colonel is still mad at former Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev for telling him to seek peaceful alternatives to the insurrection; he has a good grasp of the southern Africa political dynamics. The septuagenarian also speculated that the reason Mandela didn’t visit Ethiopia after TPLF/EPRDF assumed power was because he didn’t want to see a divided Ethiopia from which Eritrea separated. Suffice to say evidence was in short supply.
Days earlier, the born-again Christian Tamrat Layne talked at length with the Australian public radio Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) host Kassahun Seboqa.
Both interviewees are thousands of kilometers away from their homeland in the true “spirit” of African leaders who can hardly walk their streets after they are booted out of office. That said, both should be commended for being gracious enough to share their side of the story.
Fall from grace
Tamrat Layne was Prime Minister of Ethiopia when rebel forces unseated the military regime in 1991. Initially the post of the PM didn’t matter at all. Then with the ratification of the 1995 Constitution, Tamrat was pushed to the deputy premiership as the ever shrewd Meles took his position.
After his relegation to irrelevance, the last time we heard from him was when in an emergency session Meles briefed the Parliament about the “repetitive ethical misconduct” his deputy committed while in office. “My Party decided that I am not capable of discharging my duties and responsibilities. In open discussions I held with fellow party comrades, I came to realize the mistakes I made while in leadership was unbecoming of me,” Tamrat told s stunned nation.
“I fully comply with the measures taken and I support the Party’s decisions and I want this House to allow me to resign my position.” The House cheerfully fulfilled his wish. That opened the next chapter of his life which lasted longer than his stint in the mountains of northern Ethiopia. By confessing his sins right there and then, he might have thought of saving some skin. That was never meant to be!
Tamrat is obviously a different person now. Seems to have found solace or a hideout (depending on how you look at it) in religion. Ever since his “redemption”, he devotes his time to the family he missed so much in the dozen years he was away from them. The father of two is currently living in the United States.
Coming back to the hour long interview, it is safe to say there was nothing groundbreaking. The talk of writing books serves to show his importance than the significance of the content of his work. After all, ANDM was a mere pawn in the TPLF politics and as such has no life of their own.
Talking legacy
As if we are not tired of the talk of legacy, now Tamrat has his own. One might think the legacy he left behind in the five uninspiring years may be as impressive as that of the last President of the country, Girma Wolde Giorgis.
Nope! He is not ready to settle for less. “For the first time in (Ethiopian) history religious equality was granted under EPRDF rule on my watch. I signed the document,” he declared. When the radio host challenged his assertion, Tamrat reiterated: “Under Dergue there was no religious equality. For example, Protestant religion was outlawed. Protestants used to be persecuted, imprisoned, banished, killed. Everybody knows that.” It is not clear whether he had foreseen his own conversion to that church. Tamrat might have presented himself as the champion of religious freedom in Ethiopia by telling the story to the laity of the U.S. mega churches where he makes occasional appearances.
To give the devil his due, the Dergue regime soon after the overthrow of the Imperial regime, not only declared the separation of Church and State but subsequently made the three Muslim holidays public holidays.
As Mengistu Hailemariam claims not to have killed a single individual to these days in the face 2of scores of evidences, Tamrat insists that he has not stashed away public money. He wants the public to believe the stories of the millions of dollars he was accused of embezzling were mere fabrications. Tamrat told the interviewer that the Government tried in vain to recover them. This begs the question: what was the “ethical misconduct” for which Tamrat himself confessed in public?
On a positive note, Tamrat deserves respect for apologizing to the former Dergue officials. In the days when he was flying high he said: “These people were not supposed to be alive by now.” Now they are all free. While the apology could have served its purpose if delivered in person, entertaining the idea by itself is no mean feat. He should also consider himself lucky to have made it thus far in the treacherous politics of Ethiopia where he miserably failed to make a mark.

Menilik II & Mandela vs. Mengistu & Meles

by Robele Ababya
I would like to start writing this piece with this quote attributed to Sir Isaac Newton in his own right as one of the giants in mathematics and classical physics: “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.”
Introduction
This article is not meant to compare historical events that took place a century apart. The piece is merely a tribute to colossus fighters for freedom from oppression in their own times. This approach provided the opportunity to illustrate what attributes Menilik II and Mandela  had in common, such as their reliance on outstanding feats of their heroic ancestors.Menilik II and Mandela had in common
The duo are now at their final resting home in heaven leaving behind a laudable legacy that would take the present and future generations forward through the complex world where, as Sir Isaac Newton said: “What we know is a drop, what we don’t know is an ocean.”
Menilik II
In the 19th century (1896) Emmye Menilik II won the victory of the Battle of Adwa that put Ethiopia on the world map as an independent country. The victory shocked European powers, which had no choice but recognize Ethiopia as a free and independent country and establish or bolster their diplomatic missions in Addis Ababa. This was an epic achievement by Menilik II that subsequently paved the way for stalwart liberation fighters like Jomo Kenyatta, Kwame Nkrumah, Nelson Mandela et al in the 20th century. Ethiopia under Empeeror Selassieassie, Founder Father of Africa, played a leading role in the fight for the liberation of the African continent. This would have not been impossible without Menilik’s victory in the Battle of Adwa.
Menilik II earned the epic accolade of “Emmye” (Mother) for His magnanimity and exceptional ability to work with His former rivals and foes promoting them to top key positions in His kingdom, irrespective of their ethnic background.  As several prolific Ethiopian writers and prominent scholars have recorded the exceptional qualities of the Monarch, I will only add that He will be remembered as the first to lay down the inspiring foundation in the struggle for the liberation of black people of African origin.
Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela fought for liberation in his time in the 20th century setting sterling example to African leaders of the 21st century to fight neo-colonialism. Mandela stood for the principle of no group should oppress any other groups as expressed in his famous vow written in these enduring words:  “I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination.  I’ve cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and [with] equal opportunities.  It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve.  But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”
Mandela was crowned with the accolade of one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century in our own time by standing on the shoulders of giants political leaders like Menilik II of Ethiopia – the root of his genesis as framed in his immortal words: “Ethiopia has always held a special place in my own imagination and the prospect of visiting attracted me more strongly than a trip to France, England and America combined. I felt I would be visiting my own genesis, unearthing the roots of what made me an African. Meeting the Emperor himself would be like shaking hands with history.”
Mandela was buried at his birth place of his ancestors having been a victim of man’s inhumanity to man and leaving a colossus legacy of truth-peace-reconciliation as a Founder and first black President of the inclusive Rainbow Nation that is  exemplary  to the world.
By the way, the above quote is a very significant reminder that “The Kingdom of Kush or Kush (1500 BC – 8 BC) was an ancient African kingdom situated on the confluences of the Blue Nile, White Nile and River Atbara in what is now the Republic of Sudan and that a part of modern Nubia in Egypt and Sudan, as well as all of Sub-Saharan Africa in general.” My emphasis.
Kush originated from the descendants of Noah’s three sons: Japheth, Shem, & Ham who survived the great flood.  Kush is the eldest son of Ham or grandson of Noah. Source: Genesis 7: 13 of the Holy Bible (KJV).
Based on my belief in the Holy Bible, I often ask why in South Africa, and for that matter in our entire world, the descendants of Noah (Japheth, Shem and Ham) live in acrimony that sometimes border on mutual destruction.
Stalinist Mengistu
Mengistu hijacked and turned the peaceful change of 1974 Ethiopian Revolution into a bloody civil war. He got his deputy Atnafu Abate executed in cold blood for genuinely advocating a policy of mixed economy, free media and democracy; this criminal act shocked even the ex-USSR which was supportive of broad-based and inclusive struggle for change as well as normalization of relations with the Western powers; he and most of his accomplices in the Derg dubbed the ex-USSR as revisionist.
Mengistu enticed the nobilities and dignitaries of the Imperial regime by extending an olive branch of “Ethiopia Tikdem Yale Menim Dem” (Ethiopia First without Bloodshed) and then put them in prison subsequently massacring them in cold blood without trial.
He failed stop the state-sponsored Red Terror inspite of the objection of the Kremlin to that effect.
He got General Aman Andom, which reckless action worked to the advantage of the Shaebia. He got B/General Teferi Benti for advocating in public peace and reconciliation with opposition entities, with EPRP in particular. Both Generals aforementioned were Chairman of the Derg under which Mengistu served as their deputy, but in fact as a real mafia leader in power.
Ziade Bare of Somalia took advantage of the massacre of highly experienced officials of the Imperial regime including the irreplaceable Prime Minister Aklilu Haptewold, Lt. General Assefa Ayene and others to invade our country,
Mengistu overturned his own land proclamation of private land of 10 hectares to each peasant and introduced the State and cooperative farming systems, which were on the verge of dying in the ex- USSR.
It was under Mengistu that an Institute of Nations and Nationalities was established and that the structure of government reflected divisiveness along ethnic lines – a bad omen of things to come which many of his own officials feared.
Mengistu failed miserably to read the writings on the wall demanding reform; for example: he ordered the killing of capable senior officers and generals in the 1989 coup; he reneged on his publicly declared decision to adopt a mixed-economic policy.
Finally, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mengistu fled the country leaving behind in disarray a huge army equipped with advanced weapons – thus allowing the brutal TPLF regime, which inflicted untold crimes and colossal damages to our national resources in the past 23 years. His sudden flee gave the golden chance to Shaebia and TPLF to loot the military equipment and for the latter to explode  large munitions depot one in Addis  Ababa causing civilian casualties; the latter (Shaebia) used the stolen weapons and munitions in the Ethiopia-Eritrea war of 1998 – 2000.
Stalinist Meles Zenawi
It is noteworthy to recall that the Axumite Kingdom is recorded as controlling Yemen in the 6th century. “Around 523 AD, the Jewish king Dhu Nuwas came to power in Yemen and, announcing that he would kill all the Christians, attacked an Aksumite garrison at Zafar, burning the city’s churches. He then attacked the Christian stronghold of Najran, slaughtering the Christians who would not convert. Emperor Justin I of the Eastern Roman empire requested that his fellow Christian, Emperor Kaleb, help fight the Yemenite king, and around 525, Kaleb invaded and defeated Dhu Nuwas, appointing his Christian follower Sumuafa’ Ashawa’ as his viceroy. “Source: Google & my official visit to SANAA (Yemen) on government business.
However, Meles downsized the history of Ethiopia to the time of Menilik II deliberately ignoring the glorious history of the Axumite Kingdom.
Meles desecrated the Green-Yellow-Red Ethiopian flag and encouraged the removal of the statute of the Great Victor of Adwa, Menilik II; he deliberately belittled or shunned the achievements of glorious past leaders including Emperors Kaleb, Theodros II, Yohannes IV, and war heroes such as Alula Aba Nega all but  the second in the list hailing from the Tigray region of the present day.
The tyrant finally died leaving us with the legacy of: sellout of Ethiopia’s vital national interests such as active support for the separation of Eritrea; grisly heinous crimes including genocide, victims of torture, incarceration of peaceful protesters en masse; extra judiciary execution of peaceful protesters, the wailing of mothers, the agony of bereaved families, filthy jails in which hundreds of political prisoners are cruelly kept, toiling peasants in serfdom, interethnic hatred, daylight robbery of votes, pervasive corrupt practices, culture of pathological lies, muzzled media, government monopoly of all pillars of democracy, blocked freedom of expression, poor educational standard, forbidden academic freedom in tertiary institutions, a land-locked country, fertile farmland ceded to the Sudan; leasing large chunks of fertile farmlands to unscrupulous foreign investors at tiny prices; massive unemployment largely affecting the youth; demoralized youth addicted to psycho-thermal drugs; abject poverty; embezzlement of national treasure and diverting donor fund;  rampant breach of the constitution; regional instability et al.
Excerpt from President Obama’s speech
I would very much like to draw the attention of readers to a part of President Barrack Obama’s speech at the Funeral of Madiba: “And so we, too, must act on behalf of justice.  We, too, must act on behalf of peace.  There are too many people who happily embrace Madiba’s legacy of racial reconciliation, but passionately resist even modest reforms that would challenge chronic poverty and growing inequality.  There are too many leaders who claim solidarity with Madiba’s struggle for freedom, but do not tolerate dissent from their own people. And there are too many of us on the sidelines, comfortable in complacency or cynicism when our voices must be heard.”
I say yes, we too Ethiopians must act in earnest in unison especially at this most critical time in our history to save Ethiopia from fragmentation; and to bequeath to our children a united, democratic, strong, prosperous, all-inclusive, tolerant, and caring Ethiopian society governed by a constitution of the people, by the people, and for the people.
Closing remarks
  • The African continent is in quagmire; it is beset by multiple problems including incompetent leadership, dire corruption, rampant youth unemployment, abject poverty, social injustice, moral turpitude, et al. Therefore great leaders of the caliber of Menilik II and Mandela are critically needed to avert donor dependency and/or neo-colonialism
  • I believe that the virtues of truth, peace, and reconciliation were conspicuous by their absence in the lexicon of the brutal Stalinists Mengistu and Meles. Let us not make any attempt to ennoble these criminals
  • I praise the leaders of the G7 “Movement for Justice, Freedom and Democracy” for their responsible publicly expressed stance to advance the cause of truth, peace and reconciliation subject to genuine measures to be taken by the TPLF/EPRDF regime to establish trust such as by releasing all political prisoners and allowing unfettered freedom of expression. The onus is on the regime to reciprocate positively!!!
I call on the ruling regime to immediately and unconditionally release all prisoners of conscience including Andualem Aragie, Eskinder Nega, Bekele Gerba, Reeyot Alemu, Leaders of the Ethiopian Muslims et al!
